Our Projects

Funding to make a difference

DLD is a proactive funder. We build our knowledge by talking to and meeting with individuals and organisations working within our priority areas. Where we identify opportunities and the prospect of a project that aligns with our current grant making policy, we invite proposals for funding. We don’t encourage unsolicited applications. Below are some of the projects which we are currently funding.

Mega

DLD support MEGA because of our family’s long and continued, association with the engineering and manufacturing industries in the Mid Ulster region. MEGA’s vision is to advance world-class manufacturing and engineering by attracting, developing and retaining our people.

The Colum McNally Scholarship

with Queen’s University of Belfast Foundation

The scholarship was created to give students the gift of time. More time to study, more time to spend with their families, or more time to give back to their community. Aware of the many burdens on students this scholarship hopes to alleviate some of the financial burden.

This scholarship was named in memory of Colum McNally. A remarkable young engineer who won Young engineer of the year award in 2015. Sadly Colum, whilst studying engineering at Queen’s University passed away from cancer in October 2016. DLD Fund three scholarships worth £5,000 per year per student over a minimum of three years.

Inspired by the Life and Story of Colum McNally

Many of our scholars have said how inspired they have been by the life and stories of Colum. They have said how knowing of the difficulties and challenges which Colum faced in his life helped them face and accept some of the challenges in their own lives.

It Gives the Scholar More Time

This scholarship gives the gift of time. Many students have to work part-time to fund their studies. A key benefit of the scholarship is that this need is reduced or removed.

Reduced Financial Burden

Scholarships allow students to fully focus on their studies by reducing the financial pressures.

Help With Networking

New Scholars can expect advice on placement opportunities and what to expect in later years of the degree. With a growing alumni these connections will become more valuable.

Help with Job & Placement Interviews

The scholarship helps candidates stand out at interviews, as it is a strong talking point during placement or job interviews.
